Astronomy and Astrophysics Correcting for Lensing Bias in the Hubble Diagram

چکیده
Gravitational lensing will cause a dispersion in the Hubble diagram for high redshift sources. This effect will introduce a bias in the cosmological parameter determination using the distance-redshift relation for Type Ia supernovae. In this note we show how one can diagnose and correct for this bias when doing precision cosmology with supernovae. A&A manuscript no. متن کاملTelescope : Evidence for Past Deceleration and Constraints on Dark Energy
We have discovered 16 Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and have used them to provide the first conclusive evidence for cosmic deceleration that preceded the current epoch of cosmic acceleration. These objects, discovered during the course of the GOODS ACS Treasury program, include 6 of the 7 highest-redshift SNe Ia known, all at z > 1.25, and populate the Hubble...

متن کاملA Direct Measurement of the Linear Bias of Mid-infrared-selected Quasars at Z≈1 Using Cosmic Microwave Background Lensing
We measure the cross-power spectrum of the projected mass density as traced by the convergence of the cosmic microwave background lensing field from the South Pole Telescope (SPT) and a sample of Type 1 and 2 (unobscured and obscured) quasars at 〈z〉 ∼ 1 selected with the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, over 2500 deg. The cross-power spectrum is detected at ≈7σ, and we measure a linear bias...
متن کاملA Snapshot Survey for Gravitational Lenses Among z ≥ 4 . 0 Quasars : II . Constraints on the 4 . 0 < z < 4 . 5 Quasar Population
We report on i-band snapshot observations of 157 Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) quasars at 4 < z < 5.4 using the Advanced Camera for Surveys on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to search for evidence of gravitational lensing of these sources. None of the quasars appear to be strongly lensed and multiply imaged at the angular resolution (∼ 0. 1) and sensitivity of HST. The non-detection of stro...
